To Love

Love… many believe they are/ were in it, others simply use the term. What does it mean?

Webster defines love as “affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests.”

What a cold definition. What other words can describe “love?” Affection… Adoration… Irresistible? None seem to satisfy my perception.

When I think about, sit next to, or speak with my Love, nothing else seems to matter as much. The problems are not as big. The good things are even better. I am filled with a warmth that can not be matched. I want to spend the rest of my lift with him. I want to get old together. I cannot picture my life without him in it. I feel as though I am a better person because of his existence. He comforts me when I need. He helps me with I need. He makes me laugh. He lets me cry. I respect him. He respects me. He is protective, caring, giving, loving, generous, admirable, and genuine. We share the same beliefs. He listens attentively. He speaks openly. I could go on for hours.

This list does not define “love.” However, it does demonstrate love’s traits. Perhaps that is the best that we can do… list its traits. Perhaps in using the word “love,” I include all of those things and more. Perhaps that is what everyone does. Perhaps when a person uses the term, they mean it in the way that is best for them. What a personal and powerful experience!
I love him… the best way that I know how. I love my family… the best what that I know how. We all love the best way that we know how. That is all that we can do.

Excellent observation...after I read this I thought about it for a bit and decided not only are you correct but you have the best possible reference behind you. In the Bible Jesus tells all about how we need to "love" our neighbor as yourself, "love" your enemies, etc, but He never really defines love. The only attempt at defining it gives us the famous 1Corinthians verse (Love is patient, love is kind...). And that definition comes from Paul who was divinely inspired by God so much so that he went from killing Christians to spreading it all across the known world. A list is the best definition if not the only definition

Thanks B. I was thinking of 1st Corinthians, but never actually wrote it down.
