Priorities

I just realized that the end of the month is tomorrow and that I had not posted anything in a while. It’s not that I’ve had nothing to say, quite the contrary, but I just haven’t found the time.

That’s not fair. It’s not that I haven’t found the time, it’s that I have not taken the time. I spend a lot of time chatting, surfing the web, planning, working, traveling, eating, sleeping, and a whole host of other activities. Clearly I found the time to do these things, why not write?

As with everything, we prioritize everything. I tend to prioritize not by the importance of the task, or even the due date, but by my interest level.

For example, I am VERY interested in what the programs/ bulletins will look like for the wedding ceremony. We have a little over 3 months before we need these. I have other things that are due WAY before the programs are needed… and some of them are even work-related. However, I seem to spend a lot of time during my day writing, researching and inquiring about the details of the ceremony.

And so I have a schedule for myself. The tasks that I have to do each day. They vary significantly day to day. Some of them I do not like to do, some of them I do not mind. However, why I REALLY like to do is to check things off of my list. So, since “checking off” is a high priority, I can work around my priority issues.

I guess that I need to add, “Post a Blog” to my list of tasks.

As you already know I'm the same way...nothing feels so good as checking something off your to-do list. I even add things that totally don't need to be on the list (one example would be "eat dinner") just so I have something to cross off after each thing I do. Or if I start doing something that isn't on my list but should be I'll add while doing it so I can cross it off at the end.
