To all of you who know what's going on in my personal life, thank you for your support, calls, texts, emails, prayers, cards, packages, etc. No matter how much I like to think otherwise, it's the support of loved ones that can make life's hiccups tolerable.
To any of you who do not know what the past 2 weeks have been like, here is the summary:
My husband went into the hospital for a planned reconstuction of his right ankle. It should have been a 2-day stay and then homebound. Things didn't turn out that way. The surgery went well although they needed to do a little more work than they anticipated. We ended up having some complications post-surgery, some major and most minor, that turned the 2-day stay into a 6-day stay.
Somewhere along the way, we were informed that he needed 24-hour care for a few days. Either I could take a leave from work or he'd have to be admitted into a rehab center. So I took a leave of absence from work. I returned to work a couple of days ago.
Here's what I have learned so far: I have a much higher tolerance for disgusting bodily functions that I thought that I did; I've learned how important family and friends really are and who is a true friend/ family member; I've learned that sleep really can be optional; I've learned how much I enjoy going to work; I've realized how much I depend on my spouse and how much he now has to depend on me; I've seen again how powerful prayer really can be.
So now begins the healing process. Pain managment, balance, therapy and eventually walking again. The surgeon told us at the beginning that this would be at least a 6-month process... and that was assuming that everything went perfectly. We'll see. God's plan will be revealed in time.
In the meantime, thank you to everyone.

Well if your career fails, at least you have nursing to fall back on!
On a serious note, I'm here if you need to rant, or plain talk.
My thoughts and prayers are with you both!
Holy crap...I heard about his surgery but I had no idea about the complications. When you get a moment give me a call and fill me in. Also sent my regards to Tom and both of you will be in my prayers.
I am thinking and praying for you both
R- I am so sorry to hear this. I hope he is on the mend soon - both in body and spirit. I'm sure you are being a great nurse to him; he is in good hands. You will both be in my prayers~
