A Decade

A Decade... 10 years.

When I turned 10 years old, our family had a custom for which our grandmother would give us $10 for each year... therefore, we got $100 on our 10th birthday. I remember thinking 2 things:

1. Before I turned 10, I thought that I would NEVER get to 10... it seemed like such a long time!
2. When I turned 10 and I received my $100, I felt rich!

This past Sunday marked my 10-year anniversary with my company.
10 Years!

So, here I am 10 years later... hopefully somewhere near 10 years wiser. I remember thinking 2 things:

1. I would never have a 5-year anniversary. In fact, at one point I resigned. Obviously didn't stick.
2. $100 today doesn't mean as much now as it did 20+ years ago.

As is my custom when I get all introspective, what I have I learned in 10 years?

1. 10 years really isn't that long. In fact, the time passes rather quickly. I totally understand why people say that the years pass more quickly when one gets older. It's true.
2. I am MUCH less reactionary. I have learned, for the most part, to avoid the knee-jerk reaction to things.
3. I am sometimes surprised when I look at my career history and where I now find myself. I have achieved my childhood goals. Now it's time to find new ones. Now is a time of crossroads.
4. I have found a career that I am passionate about. Without sounding too arrogant, I am pretty good at it, most of the time.

I am sure that I have learned a lot more. I am sure that they are minor details... afterall, I have another 10 years to figure them out.

Happy Anniversary to me!

So I have to agree that hitting my 10th birthday seemed impossible...not to mention the fact that that tradition came to an end about the time I turned 9. Also I have to agree the time does go much faster now since this summer I will be having my high school 10 year reunion.

Wow my little girl has grown up, and she has gotten wiser along the way.

Amiee- Thanks. I'll be sure to have a discussion with myself. I can be a hardass though. No telling what will come of it.
Brian- 10 HS reunion? Aren't you in 7th grade. Perhaps that makes the wedding thing a little odd...
Lonetree- Thanks. Older for sure, wiser- I have my moments, but the jury is still out.

To All - Well said!! I know that 10 years ago seems like a life time. I am in a place in my life now that I never thought I would be doing what I am doing taxes!! Although days are sometimes difficult they are also just as rewarding.
