I hope that everyone had a safe, happy and interesting Independence Day weekend. With that said, I would like to share an interesting story:
On July 3rd, we joined a few friends, and hundreds of other people that we didn't know, for our local fireworks spectacular. We do this every year. It's a local show, but really pretty impressive. Typically we sit on the right side of the baseball diamonds. The view is great there.
This year we joined with some people who had not been at the fireworks for a few years, but had found seating before we arrived. We joined them. Like MANY other people, we were on the left side of the baseball diamonds.
The sun went down and the rockets began to flare into amazing bursts of color. Some so high that they felt that they were right on top of me.
PLUNK! They WERE right on top of me! A 2x2 inch piece of formerly-burning rocket material landed on my head! It didn't hurt. It didn't burn... but it definitely surprised me. It happened a few more times... not only to me, but to the people I was with and others that were in the general area.
I learned 2 things are certainly true:
1. Fireworks can be dangerous
2. What goes up must come down
