Thanksgiving in Michigan

Twenty-four hours from now I plan on being in Michigan, at my parent’s house. I look forward to this trip every year. It’s the one time that I get to go back to my roots. It’s a long, tiresome drive. Or at least that is what I used to think.

The drive is very peaceful with trees lining the highway for nearly every mile. I used to take that for granted. Aside from radio stations fading in and out, there is little to keep my mind occupied. I used to find this tedious. Now I look at it as a wonderful time to think.

What will I think about? The past year, the next year, changes that I saw, changes that I hope for and the things that I want to stay the same. I will revert to my default personality trait... introspective. I enjoy that. I have the opportunity to think about myself with a third-person point of view.

I can only handle that for a while. Seven hours is more than enough. I will have Hawk with me… to make sure that my face is completely washed.

Soon I will be at my parents. I will become the oldest child of three. I like that. We will celebrate Thanksgiving… I have a lot to be thankful for. Ultimately, I will list those things in my head on my trip to Michigan. I will relive the time there on my trip back to Illinois.

This is my favorite time of year.
